‘Cantoras’ by Carolina De Robertis is a beautiful story of friendship and love between women during and after the Uruguayan dictatorship in the 1970/80s. Alternating between Montevideo and a remote beach, it focuses on the stories of Flaca (a butch butcher!), Romina, Anita (La Venus), Paz, and Malena—and their lives, loves, and lovers.
The language is beautiful and very figurative (without being too much!). And some of the conversations between the women are incredibly hilarious!
(If you wonder about the title: read the book!)
