‘Read This to Get Smarter’ by Blair Imani

Biases are learned and can and must be unlearned.

‘Read This to Get Smarter: About Race, Class, Gender, Disability, & More’ is a nonfiction book by Blair Imani, who is well known for her ‘Smarter in Seconds’ series on social media.

While not strictly a queer book, it does address queer topics and Blair herself is bisexual. In addition to race, class, gender, sexuality, and disability, the book discusses identity, where all these topics converge, and our relationships with others.

Although I think this book is intended for younger readers, particularly teenagers, it's a wonderful introduction to the discussed topics and no prior knowledge is necessary. Every chapter ends with ‘reflection questions’ that encourage further thought on these topics.

If you are unsure about any of these topics: read this book! Blair has a wonderful and very accessible way of explaining everything.
