I was so excited to read 'Unprotected: A Memoir' by Billy Porter ever since the book was announced. And it did not disappoint.
The book is written as Billy Porter speaks, and while this may seem unusual at times, it makes the memoir even more authentic. And made him so present in my mind the whole time, as if he was reading to me. The book is personal and moving, at times heartbreaking.
One small criticism: the book should have been edited more carefully, especially toward the end.
CW: abuse, racism, homophobia
