Vegan in Thailand

We love Thai food! Thai cuisine uses fish and oyster sauce a lot, but if you ask places to not use it, you'll find a lot of delicious options!

The Capital

Bangkok

Wat Arun in Bangkok.

Noodles with green curry and peanut sauce & deep-fried tofu at May Kaidee. They only serve vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Papaya Salad (Som Tam), Mama Noodle Soup, Massaman Curry, fried noodles veggie + tofu, and sticky rice with mango at Jeng Noodle Thai Food. They have a very good understanding of veganism and can make almost everything vegan! The food is so delicious and the owner is so sweet, in a stern, motherly way, that we went three times.

Pad Thai at Hi Friends SomTum. Ask for the vegan version! (You’ll find pad thai everywhere on the streets. However, even the vegetable version is not vegan—it’s made with fish sauce, so ask them to not use it!)

Vegan Quesadilla at Sunrise Tacos. A bit pricey, but they have a vegan menu. The vegan sour cream doesn’t look or taste like sour cream, but is delicious!

Both stir-fried tofu dishes at Yogi’s Spicy Café.

Fried Vegetable Rice at Swing Bar. Ask them to make it vegan and enjoy the temple views!

Channa Masala with plain paratha at Jai Palace.

Vegan Mushroom Ramen at Lust Ramen Silom.

Sweet dumplings at the Taling Chan Floating Market. When we went, the stall was on the left side in the entrance ‘hall’ and had the ingredients printed in English. Very delicious!! (We saw more food stalls with vegan food. Just ask! :) But it might be useful to know the Thai words for milk, egg etc.)

Papaya Salad, Tempura Mushrooms, Fried Tofu with Bean Sprouts, and Pad Thai at Cheaper & Better. They don’t have vegan options on the menu, but they ‘can make everything vegan.’

Tabong & Banana (appetizer) at Madame Musur.

Krabi Province

Ko Lanta Yai

As elsewhere in Thailand, vegan dishes are rarely on the menu, but wherever I asked, they told me they can make most dishes vegan. So: go ahead and ask!

Phanang Curry with tofu at Time Thai Restaurant. They don’t have any vegan dishes on their menu, but have a very good understanding of veganism!

Pad Thai at Beachcomber Restaurant.

Mixed Thai Appetizer at Happy Veggie the first time. And when we came back a second time, we shared Satay, I had the Yellow Curry, and Carina the Tofu Burger. Everything was delicious! They serve only vegan and vegetarian food!

Fried Tofu and Green Curry with Vegetables at Beach Side Restaurant. Not the best food we had, but good enough!

Veggie Tempura, Khao Soi (northern curry noodles), and Sticky Rice with Mango at Mama Dang Kitchen. The place is very pretty and quite unique!

Sunset over the ocean in Koh Lanta.
The beach in Krabi at night.

Krabi Province

Krabi

If you're staying in Krabi before or after Ko Lanta, try the green curry at First Restaurant. I think mine was custom: I had tofu and vegetables.
