‘Marriage of a Thousand Lies’ by SJ Sindu tells the story of Lucky.
Lucky’s family is from Sri Lanka and tries to live by Hindu rules—including marrying a good husband and having children. But Lucky and her husband have an arrangement: both are not straight and Lucky married him to appease her family.
When Nisha, her old friend and former lover is planning to marry, they meet again for the first time since Lucky’s wedding.
While I loved how SJ Sindu included a lot of cultural references to South Asia, they sometimes did so in an overly descriptive way. The lesbians in the story (if described more closely) seemed to identify as either butch or femme with nothing in between, where I would have liked more diversity. But otherwise: a fantastic book!
